China Extends AD/CVD Investigation on U.S. Monoalkyl Ethers of Ethylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol
On August 27, MOFCOM issued notices to extend anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations on certain U.S. chemical products. The ongoing investigations, both launched in 2020, have now been extended for six months.
With regard to the CVD investigation, MOFCOM stated (link in Chinese) that:
According to the Countervailing Regulations of the People’s Republic of China, on September 14, 2020, the Ministry of Commerce issued Notice No. 37 of 2020, determining to launch a countervailing investigation on the imports of monoalkyl ethers of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol originating in the United States.
Due to the complexity of this case, the Ministry of Commerce decided to extend the investigation period of this case by 6 months, in accordance with the provisions of Article 27 of the Countervailing Regulations of the People's Republic of China. The new deadline is March 14, 2022.
A separate document (link in Chinese) issued on the same day indicates that the AD investigation has also been extended for six months. The new deadline is February 28, 2022.
The anti-dumping investigation (link in Chinese) was launched on August 31, 2020, and the countervailing duty investigation (link in Chinese) started on September 14, 2020.
The products under investigation, monoalkyl ethers of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol, can be used as solvent agents, dispersants and dilutants, fuel antifreeze, or extractants. As an important material for organic synthesis, they are widely used in electronic chemicals, coating materials, pharmaceuticals and pesticides, and other chemical products.
