The commerce ministers of China and the United States met last week on the sideline of APEC. While the two sides remain at odds about the national security aspects of trade and investment, they managed to agree on enhancing communication on trade secret protection, standards, as well as trade and investment promotion. The actual effect of these new communication mechanisms remains to be seen.
